There's been a number of Patriots offensive coordinators who have jumped ship to lead a team at the collegiate ranks. Mark down Josh McDaniels as a maybe.
According to Scott Roussel of Football Scoop, McDaniels is on the short list of candidates that could take over for the recently departed Will Muschamp at the University of Florida. McDaniels was described as "a viable candidate" for the position by Roussel and is being considered along with a pair collegiate coaches, namely Ole Miss's Hugh Freeze.
McDaniels has been the offensive coordinator for the Pats for three years in this, his second stint in the role, and the unit has been in the top 10 in overall offense in every year of his tenure. He has head coaching experience from his time in Denver, and he was up for and passed up an opportunity to take over the Browns this past offseason.
It wouldn't be a total surprise to see McDaniels take a shot at another head coaching gig, but the move could come after the season and could be largely dependent on where New England finishes.
