From an outside perspective, Julian Edelman's 51-yard touchdown pass to fellow wideout Danny Amendola last Saturday was a difference-maker. From the team's perspective, it may have been the difference-maker.
According to defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, the late third-quarter game-tying score was just what the doctor ordered as the Patriots rolled on to a thrilling 35-31 victory.
“Awesome. I mean it was awesome,” Wilfork said Monday, via WEEI. “When you see plays like that it sparks your team and gives your team a spark. I think that’s exactly what happened when that play happened. I think the whole sideline jumped off the bench and was just so excited to make that play.
"Even though Tom [Brady] threw some touchdowns in the game, but to see that play work, I think that play really got the team turned around and going in the right direction. We fed off that play, definitely.”
The Patriots will face the Indianapolis Colts Sunday in the AFC Championship game.
