There's plenty of time before opening day, but the New England Patriots' depth at linebacker is already a potential blip on the radar.
With news that 25-year-old Dont'a Hightower's shoulder surgery could have him rehabbing for up to eight months, that leaves New England a little light in the middle of the field. It's not surprising then that the team brought in five-year veteran Rolando McClain for a meet and greet Monday, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.
McClain, who has more experience than any linebacker on the Pats with 50 starts, would be a solid addition to the crew, given his skill set. As Reiss pointed out, however, he does come with some baggage, which includes a substance-abuse violation.
