Josh Freeman didn't play football in 2014. He's hoping 2015 won't be a repeat performance.
The former first round pick signed with the Miami Dolphins Thursday and joins Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore--as well as McLeod Bethel-Thompson--on the depth chart.
General manager Dennis Hickey likely had a strong hand in the move, as Hickey helped scout Freeman during his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It's been a rather steep fall for the sixth-year signal-caller, who saw early success in his career before a tumultuous last three years in which he left Tampa, played in one game for the Minnesota Vikings and got cut by the New York Giants last offseason.
Miami is giving him another shot, however, and he's grateful. How long he actually lasts is to be determined.
“I feel like they have a really strong direction in their organization from a leadership standpoint,” Freeman said this week, via MiamiDolphins.com. “I’m familiar with Dennis Hickey and a number of staff members. (I was) in there with (quarterbacks coach) Zac Taylor and Coach (Bill) Lazor. We were in there talking about the offense and the direction.
"Also the conversations I had with Coach (Joe) Philbin were pretty awesome. I think it will be a great fit.”
