Matt Simms is getting more reps now that he's with the Buffalo Bills, but his place on the depth chart hasn't changed much from his time with the Jets.
On a day where the 26-year-old told reporters (via ESPN.com) his plan to leave Gang Green for a shot in Buffalo "paid off" and that he's "happy to be here now," his old/new coach made it clear that the QB competition in Buffalo is a three-man situation.
"(The competition) is what it is right now," Rex Ryan said via BuffaloBills.com. "Three guys are going to be working at it, they’re splitting the reps. Don’t kid yourself, Matt will get opportunities. Will he get as many as the top three guys, probably not.
"One thing about Matt, I know he’ll take advantage of the opportunities he gets and I’m not saying he can’t make this team."
Simms, who saw only four games worth of work in his two years in New York, is up against three signal-callers with far more experience -- E.J. Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor -- and is likely competing for the third-string spot he held while previously under Ryan.
