New England snags league-high 4 compensatory picks


Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots may not have a first-round pick in this year's draft, but they're certainly not going into Chicago with zero cards to play.

The NFL announced Friday that it has awarded the Pats four compensatory picks for free agents lost during last year's offseason, pushing New England's pick count to 10. The best of those picks was a third-rounder, No. 96 overall.

According to ESPN.com, the four picks are the most awarded to a team this season.

Per Mike Reiss:
"Those picks were a result of the net between the free-agent losses of Akeem Ayers, Brandon Browner, Jonathan Casillas, Darrelle Revis, Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen and Vince Wilfork weighed against the signing of free-agent defensive end Jabaal Sheard."
